South Derbyshire selection

Marginal retirement seat in the East Midlands fires starting gun for selection

Seat: South Derbyshire
Held by: Lab
Majority: New seat notional majority of 1400 (approx)
AWS: No OPEN selection

Does anyone have any insight into the selection process in South Derbyshire? It's going to take a strong candidate and an effective campaign to keep Edwina Curry's former seat Labour at the next GE.

Re: South Derbyshire selection (#1)

Hi,

I don't think anyone could have insight into a selection process which has not even begun. :)  i do hope these races dont just become subject to blogosphere rumour and speculation, and the CLP members can make their own decisions.

I think that in every selection, safe or marginal, we need strong candidates and effective campaigns... and of course effective and credible policies to be able to stand on.

Re: South Derbyshire selection (#2)

I think, given there has been a steady stream of hopefuls visiting South Derbyshire since Mark Todd anounced his intention to stand down, there will be a couple of insights out there...

I'd be surprised if no material has been sent to members yet by aspiring candidates.

:-)

Re: South Derbyshire selection (#3)

At the risk of falling into blogosphere rumour and speculation, according to blogoshere rumour and speculation on UK Polling Report those in the frame include a certain Mike Ion!

Also mentioned is Ranjit Banwait.

That's enough blogoshpere rumour and speculation.

Re: South Derbyshire selection (#4)

I've been told that Geoff Hoon's former special adviser, James Connal, has also put himself forward. He's sent out an introductory letter.
